On January 17, 2004 the NEXus Medical Group, LLC hosted their Corporate Identity Celebration at the Macon City Auditorium. This is the speech delivered by Alvin D. Sewell, M.D., president of the corporation.

During the past year our department has experienced an enormous transformation. From a group of well-qualified individuals with divergent perspectives we have created a team of Anesthetists and Anesthesiology that undoubtedly is one of the best anywhere and getting better. The success already achieved has surpassed my wildest expectations. To make this happen a lot of important and difficult decisions had to be made. To those individuals who made those decisions, and you know who you are, please accept our heart-felt thank you. Thank you for your courage, your vision and your will to see this through. Without your commitment we could not have transformed ourselves from CGAS to the NEXus Medical Group.

As we celebrate our new corporate identity let me explain why we chose the name. The definition of the word nexus is connection or link. This department is the critical link that makes the surgery center go. You have been included in this celebration because you represent one of the links to the Anesthesia Department.

By any standard imaginable this is a lavish celebration. It is important to us that you understand that this is not an ostentatious display of conspicuous consumption. Instead it is a measure of our gratitude for your contribution to our success and for the relationships we have with the medical community, this fine institution and its leaders. It is also our first stage as The NEXus Medical Group and we are making a statement and a commitment. When NEXus does something we will set the standards for excellence, whatever the endeavors. We commit to provide the absolute highest standard of care and conduct ourselves with integrity, honesty and professionalism. If we should fail in any way, we want to know.
